To write a successful seminar essay or scholarly paper, especially in the field of literature, one should observe a few conventions. Most importantly, the paper has to be logically structured and easy for the reader to follow. To make the logic of the paper’s structure immediately obvious for the reader, there are some basic rules to write scholarly paper that need to fulfil by the writer. Here are some basic rules that I cheat from Mario Klarer book entitled An Introduction To Literary Studies.

  1. The introductory paragraph should provide a map or preview of the structure and content of your scholarly paper.
  2. One part of the introductory paragraph, should provide a topic statement which inform the reader about the subject matter of the scholarly paper.
  3. This is just an additional part of the introductory paragraph, that is thesis statement. It should tell the reader how you approach.
  4. Every subsequent section should be a self-contained argument that develops one particular aspects of the overall topic of your scholarly paper.
  5. You should write transitions from previous to next paragraph.
  6. Lastly, you should write a concluding paragraph at the end of your scholarly paper.

Above are just some basic rules to write scholarly paper. If you need not only the basic but also a complete rules to write scholarly paper, just read the mentioned book above.
